This handsome, older cat is Nearburg's biggest celebrity, named and caricatured after real-life actor Cary Grant. Randolph is known for being a great many things: incredibly wealthy, a snappy dresser, a trendsetter, the owner of Randolph's Charm School and House of Beauty, a famous theatre critic, and a teacher at a ballet school just to name a few. He's also been known to perform, dancing and singing at special events. At same events, he can also be found acting as a host or speaker. Just about everybody loves this guy (except Rancid-- not even the famous Randolph is safe from his nasty schemes)!
Randolph loves things that are new, different, and exciting. That explains his catchphrase: "It's crazy, it's wild, and I love it!" Sadly, this "love" is pretty superficial. When we first meet Randolph, Cat is at a store called Rancid's Better Bottoms to trade Dog in for a new butt. Cat spies Randolph's bottom and decides that this is the bottom he wants. Dog, who is not at all keen on this, decides that if Cat wants Randolph's bottom, he was going to take Randolph's top half. Randolph is really keen on the idea of being a CatDog, and he spends the evening with the two brothers to show Dog what was in store for him-- dancing and partying the night away! In the end, Cat realizes that he'd miss Dog too much to separate from him. Randolph is totally okay with this-- in fact, instead of replacing his old bottom, he takes Rancid's two-for-one special and gets a second posterior! "They're crazy, they're wild, and I love them!"
Another example of Randolph's superficiality can be found in an episode where he works as the owner of a carnival. He hires CatDog to work as the newest member of his freak show, but when no one finds CatDog to be very freaky at all - surprise, surprise! - Randolph instead tries to sign up Winslow to be his newest attraction! After all, you can't get much freakier than a blue rat with a human nose, right? Thankfully, Winslow declined Randolph's offer, stating he already had made a deal with a theme park who wanted a rodent as its mascot.
... Am I the only one laughing about that? XD
Anyway, moving on... you may not know this, but Randolph is much older than he looks: his hair is actually a wig, and under the wig he's a total cueball! He even wears dentures-- not a single tooth in his mouth is his own. For those who don't know Randolph well, his entire lower torso is different than his upper half. He explains in the Better Bottoms episode that he had gotten a new rear before ("I'm in for my fourteenth transplant!"). All of these factoids suggest that, like any major celeb, Randolph is incredibly vain. Fortunately, this doesn't interfere with his normally affable personality, at least not very much. He's also a bit of a prima donna-- he hates creepy-crawly things. "It's disgusting, and I don't love it!"
Randolph's attitude towards CatDog is somewhat ambiguous. He seems to tolerate them a lot more than most other people, but he's only as friendly to them as he is to his hordes of fans: keeping them at respectable distance and being all smiles. In other words, while they aren't exactly friends, they're definitely not enemies. As for CatDog's feelings towards him... Dog thinks Randolph is a lot of fun to be around, and Cat practically idolizes him for being the coolest cat in town. Cat wants to hang out with Randolph, but he tries so hard to impress him that he looks like a fool.
Randolph is vain, shallow, and fickle, but he's a really nice guy otherwise. He tries to be everybody's best friend, and the life of the party who's always up for a new thrill. He's an eternal optimist, always smiling and looking on the bright side. But is there anything underneath that seemingly plastic shell? How did he get famous to begin with? Does he have any family? (There have been rumors that he's related to Cat, but they're only rumors.) He mentioned once that he made the "mistake" of dating a Schnauzer; what happened with that? How old is he? Why did he get a new butt? Is it safe to assume that Randolph has a lot more going on in his life than we're seeing? Perhaps the world may never know... unless, of course, the tabloids become popular in Nearburg. With those around, no celebrity's secret is safe!
